Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery Update

The DV-2009 application period is now closed as of noon on Sunday, December 2, 2007.

All successful applicants will be notified only by regular mail only between May and August 2008 to the address provided on their application. Applicants who have not been selected will not receive any notice.

Interviews and processing of successful applications will occur between October 1, 2008 and September 30, 2009.

Being selected does not guarantee a green card. All successful applicants should seek legal counsel before responding to the US Department of State to continue processing of their applications. For further assistance, contact our offices.

Please note you will not be contacted by e-mail or phone about your DV lottery visa application status.

The application procedures for the DV-2010 lottery will be announced by September 2008.

Members of the public should remember that unless an officer has a warrant, you are not required to invite that person into your home. Under US law, you may also properly refuse any question that is put to you and instead remain silent. You do not need to cooperate with any investigation if you do not want to do so. We believe that the guidance, advice and assistance of an experienced attorney is very important in circumstances such as these.

FEE Hikes for Immigration Services
by USCIS - July 30th, 2007

USCIS Implements New Application and Petition Fee Schedule Today Adjustment of status applicants eligible under July Visa Bulletin exempt from new fees WASHINGTON—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reminds the public that its new fee schedule is effective today, July 30, 2007.
Applications or petitions postmarked or otherwise filed on or after today must include the new fee. USCIS will reject applications or petitions containing an incorrect fee.

USCIS announced the new fee schedule in May 2007 following a comprehensive review of nearly 4,000 public comments. The final fee schedule includes a reduction in fees for some families applying for adjustment of status, expands fee waiver and exemption eligibility, allows a one-time free extension of orphan petitions for prospective adoptive parents, and replaces old fees on various petitions and applications with new fees that ensure appropriate funding to meet national security requirements and customer service needs, and modernize an outdated business infrastructure.

For more information concerning the final fee schedule, visit USCIS’ Web site at www.uscis.gov/21stCenturyService. There, you’ll learn how USCIS will “Build an Immigration Service for the 21st Century” based upon this new fee structure.

USCIS’ official fee schedule (Publication G-1055) is available for review and downloading at http://www.uscis.gov/fees.

As announced on July 17, 2007, the only applicants temporarily exempt from the new fee schedule are those who are eligible to apply for employment-based adjustment of status (Form I-485) under the Department of State’s July Visa Bulletin No. 107. Detailed information for these filers is available on a special page on the USCIS Web site titled Information on Employment-based Adjustment Applications.
